Dahmes Welding Apprenticeship

The Dahmes Apprenticeship program began in 2021. Since then, we have had over 18 graduates, 9 of whom were employed by us following graduation. By combining classroom instruction with real-world experience, apprenticeships offer an accessible and cost-effective way to become a skilled welder.

What to Expect at the Dahmes Welding Apprenticeship Program

Our 12-week program has evolved over the past four years to provide training that extends beyond the fundamentals of welding. We offer valuable classroom instruction covering a range of topics designed to provide a solid foundation for future employment, including budgeting, retirement planning, understanding personal strengths, career advancement, blueprint reading, process engineering, and project management.

In addition to classroom instruction, our apprentices will receive hands-on training alongside experienced welders. Over the course of the 12-week program, they'll learn various welding techniques, including TIG, MIG, and purge welding. To reinforce their learning, apprentices will participate in competitions that test their knowledge and complete a final project that they get to take home.

Success Stories

Hayden Larson, 2022 Apprentice Graduate

Hayden Larson, a welder at Dahmes, graduated from the Apprenticeship Program in 2022. He first discovered his interest in welding while taking classes at NLS High School and was drawn to the opportunities the program offered. When asked about his favorite memory, he recalled, “making the fire pit.”

Apprentice on-site visit

Hayden, along with fellow graduate and current welder Evan Young, talked about another favorite part of the program, the experience of visiting one of Dahmes' on-site installations.

Maddox Bolsted, 2024 Apprentice Graduate

Maddox Bolsted, a 2024 Apprenticeship Program graduate and current Dahmes welder, shares this advice for new apprentices: “You may not get it right away, but keep going and learning from the teachers—it will come.”

Qualifications and How to Apply

Motivated high school juniors and seniors from the local school districts are invited to apply to the Dahmes Apprenticeship Program. As the HR Manager, Jessie Nietfeld emphasizes that the ideal apprentices have taken welding, metals or shop classes and align with Dahmes culture and values.
